Multimedia Journalism in London: Interview with Steph Bell

This week’s post comes from our London Study Center, where TCU student Caroline Love studied Multimedia Journalism for one action-packed semester. For her video project, Caroline chose to interview Programs Coordinator Steph Bell, capturing Steph’s warm personality and her love for her work.

Journalism is practiced all over the world, but not many American journalism students can say they’ve practiced journalism across the pond. I’m fortunate enough to be one of those lucky few.

During my education at TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, I’ve acquired a wealth of knowledge about journalism and its different mediums, and I’m only halfway through my degree program. Fortunately, I was able to apply these skills during my study abroad experience at the University of Westminster in London.

My Multimedia Journalism in London module required me to put my new skills into action. This included using my video shooting and editing skills. Choosing a topic for my video project proved easier than expected because I immediately knew I wanted to capture the essence of my ACCENT program.

The subject of my video, Steph Bell, is an ACCENT staff member whom I had already formed a connection with. I knew based on my previous courses that the purpose of my video was to tell a story that captures my audience’s attention with interesting information. Steph’s positive outlook and brilliant personality made this an incredibly enjoyable task.
Shooting film may be tedious to some, but it’s an adrenaline rush for me. I become so focused on getting the perfect shot that I forget about everything else around me. This has led to at least one painful run-in with a wall, but it’s worth it.

I wouldn’t have been able to complete this project without Steph, and ACCENT, and all they do for their students. Filming an ACCENT sponsored program was a great way to represent my time abroad and show how it shapes students and their study abroad experiences. Seeing the original cast of Half a Sixpence perform live was a once in a lifetime opportunity I won’t ever forget. I’m grateful to ACCENT, Steph, and my Multimedia Journalism module for providing me with this chance to grow as a journalist.
I hope this video makes them proud.
