ACCENT on Instagram: Spring 2019 in Review

With the launch of our Instagram pages in late 2017, ACCENT has given more and more students the opportunity to share their unique experiences studying abroad. Each photo opens a window into the many services ACCENT provides its partners, from customized visits with local industry leaders to interdisciplinary course content covering everything from STEM subjects to the arts to public policy. Today, we are proud to launch our Term in Review series, where we take a look back at what ACCENT has offered this spring to students from around the country.

ACCENT Florence – Drawing on Inspiration with the University of Minnesota

View this post on Instagram

For our students in the @UMabroad Drawing course, it isn't hard to find a subject – in addition to figure drawing in the classroom, they spend plenty of time in museums and piazzas around Florence, drawing inspiration from the famous art and architecture in this beautiful city. Do you recognize this student's drawing? It's a replica of Michelangelo's famous Sistine Chapel in Rome! Check out our Facebook page (link in bio) for some photos of their recent art adventures! Each spring, ACCENT Florence offers University of Minnesota students the opportunity to enroll in a wide variety of courses related to business, literature, psychology, and art. Each course includes field trips and specialized activities designed to enhance student learning and expand the scope of the course. This photo was taken by Professor Susann Allgaier during the individual mid-term critique session for her Drawing course. The student was describing the different mediums used in her drawings and which ones she liked best, engaging with her classmates in what Professor Allgaier remembered as “an encouraging environment.”

ACCENT Paris – Purdue University students at Louis Vuitton

Although known primarily for its breathtaking art and exciting history, Paris is also known for its booming fashion and luxury industries. Every year, ACCENT Paris welcomes students from Purdue University’s Krannert School of Management as they engage in programs highlighting comparative business practices in Europe. This spring, a group of enterprising students were offered a tour of Louis Vuitton’s flagship store. Accompanied by David Schoorman, Purdue’s Associate Dean for Executive Education and Global Programs, the students engaged the store’s senior staff, asking questions about business management in Europe and the industry surrounding luxury products.

ACCENT Rome – A Vineyard Visit with the University of California

This March, University of California students visited the Marco Carpineti Organic Vineyard, where they learned all about the wine-making process. Students toured the fields, viewed the casks where fermentation occurs over a period of years, and sampled the unique flavors of the Province of Latina. Visits like this one are conducted as part of ACCENT’s Cultural Activities Series, a service offered to all our partners wherein ACCENT supplements academic learning with unforgettable cultural experiences.
